Homework can't be an outstanding learning experience if students are overloaded with tasks. Degrumbler's algorithm lets you see what your students have already been set by their other teachers. Best time to set tasks sorted!
It’s been the case since homework began: Teachers setting work having no clue about what work the student already has. Schedules can’t solve it, online tools can’t solve it, planners can’t solve it. The result is students getting overloaded with work, and then not performing in those tasks because of it.
The grumbles don’t just come from the students either. Parents scratch their heads when they find out (from their planner or online tool) that their child has 3 or 4 tasks due at the same time. ‘Why can’t the teachers spread it out?’ – I’ve asked my kids this a million times.
Teachers too are frustrated, because they don’t know what’s been set. They have to randomly assign work and then deal with the consequences when students couldn’t complete because they had too much on. THEY CAN'T MAKE THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE AN OUTSTANDING ONE. Teachers then feel the pressure because their students aren’t doing what they’re supposed to, and enormous time goes into rectifying it: chasing, punishing, communicating with parents, justifying to SLT etc
None of this needs to exist anymore.>
Teachers go free. Schools can pick and choose: maybe just single years; maybe whole school.
TEACHERS: register and get just 1 other colleague to join for free too, and open up the HW window: see what they set your students before you decide to set your tasks. The more teachers who join who share your students, the more powerful the tool.
SCHOOLS: With Degrumbler, you decide what year groups you want to go with. That way, you can select the appropriate teachers or groups to trial the tool with and get some traction with those teachers before upping the anti to more teachers. Teachers who are still a little uncomfortable with technology won't feel so overwhelmed if the school already has some competent and confident users who can guide and lead.
DEGRUMBLER is cloud-based, effortless to install, and responds to any device. We will integrate Degrumbler with your existing SIS. Teachers, sign in and all your classes and students are immediately visible.
When designing this tool, simple integration was the number one priority. Without it, we knew we didn't have a product. Degrumbler is designed by a teacher who understands the needs of a school, and how important time is to a teacher, your IT team, and the SLT.
That's why we removed any hassle for a teacher, and any hassle for your IT and Data teams, who are undoubtedly cautious about running another program and time deprived respectively. Setting up Degrumbler is simple, with your IT team only needing to clear the firewalls for access, and your data team using your SIS automation tool to populate the data sheet we send you. Of course, our development team will guide your school through the process, and be available if any problems surface.
All hosting is within the necessary geographic location to ensure your data's protocols.
Teachers just register with an assigned username and password (which can be changed) and all of their classes will be available instantly for them to see. As soon as a teacher submits a task, it populates in Degrumbler, and that data effectively follows the student to their next class, showing up in that next teacher's calendar - the next teacher will now know what work has just been set. No other tool can do that!
PARENTS receive notifications on their preferred device whenever a task is set, and become empowered to know how to help support their child, and YOUR home learning policy. REPORTS OF PROGRESS ensure if students are on track, or need intervention.
Reconnecting - Giving parents opportunities to connect with what their child is learning at home could significantly improve performance on those tasks. Parents have the chance to talk with their child about what the expectations are for the work, whether they need support, and generally how they are going with the tasks. In doing so, they gain access to what is for many parents, an often silent, unknown territory. They then become effective participants in being able to SUPPORT your home learning policy, and help your school to help students achieve their best in revision and in general home learning tasks.
Reducing - Gone are the arguments about what home learning a child may have. Parents have already received the information before the child gets home.
Reiterating - Degrumbler also collates all teacher gradings of work, and generates reports for students, providing feedback on how set tasks have been handled. This provides a more frequent measure on progress, a fantastic feature for SLT and parents. The more windows everyone has into the learning journey, the greater the chance for intervention if necessary.
TEACHERS, you're busy! You need simple useful tools, but most VLE's and HW platforms are anything but. With Degrumbler, you will only find functions you actually have time to use. The user experience is brilliant, and the tool requires no PD.
Degrumbler believes that the best edtech tools are those that are effective but almost invisible to the user. In other words, teachers shouldn't have to battle to negotiate the tool. Degrumbler's simplicity arose because of the demand by teachers to de-clutter (and de-grumble) their tools. Degrumbler is not only the most effective tool in spreading out home learning, but of the available tools that notify parents of tasks, Degrumbler is the only one that doesn't 'overload' teachers with functions that they won't use anyway (functions that your school still pays for).
Degrumbler is so simple and intuitive to use that PD is really not necessary. A couple of informative short videos should explain any possible questions that users may have, but if the need arises, our super responsive team at Degrumbler will respond super quickly to any queries or concerns, and guide staff through set up and use. After all, your business is our business.
Degrumbler is installed and open on every teacher's laptop, tablet or desktop across a class year.
When a teacher inputs home learning information, it is instantly visible to all other teachers in the group, and parents are immediatley notified.
A green task on the calendar tells a teacher that an assessment or a test is due on that day. Green tells a teacher that the task is significant, and will impact directly on grades.
There's little point in setting an assessment or big test on the same day as another faculty, yet this happens often in schools, because teachers don't know what the students in their class have been set. Decreased student performance is the obvious result, and more student grumbles. Decreased school performance follows.
A yellow icon tells a teacher that the task is possibly project work, or an in-depth task, and that it would take a student > 30 mins to complete. Seeing a yellow icon on the calendar signals caution in setting more work, and teachers should open the task to get more info about it before setting more work on that date.
Teachers can be more flexible about setting the due date for these tasks, and can differentiate for students who already have due work. Sometimes giving students one more day will result in significant improvements to the quality of work.
A blue icon tells the teacher that the task is an overnight or smaller task, ranging between 5 and 30 minutes. These tasks are likely to be created if students don't finish on time in class, or work needs to be reinforced, or if the teacher is flipping the lesson.
Blue tells the teacher that more work could possibly be set on this date, but more info is needed before making a decision. Clicking on the date will provide that info, including how many students have more than 1 task due.
It's the 22nd of September, and I'm thinking of setting some overnight homework for my Yr 8 Maths class. I quickly look at my Degrumbler app, and see that students in my class already have some work due on the 23rd. I want to know more detail, so i click on the 23rd of September cell.
I see 3 English assessments (green code) affecting 30 of my students (20, 7, and 3 respectively); Each task would take 3hrs to complete;
2 Science mid-range tasks (yellow code) affecting 27 of my students (15, and 12) each taking 1hr to complete;
and 2 overnight tasks (blue code).
I see that the number of students with > than 1 task=27
I can click on a specific task and see more details about it, including how long students have had to complete it..
it is clear that tonight is NOT a good night to set more work - the quality of the work would be severely compromised.
Teacher input takes seconds
Inputting a task would take no more than 30 seconds, and when the teacher hits submit, it instantly populates in the calendar. Teachers can add more detail if necessary, say for an assessment task, and can add links etc to help students and parents plan and manage the task.
PARENTS receive notifications of home learning tasks on their mobile or preferred device, log in to Degrumbler, and are placed in a better position to know what their child needs to complete or study for. The brilliant visual display lets parents instantly see exactly how long their child has to complete a task.
Gone are the arguments over what work they have, and checking diaries or planners. Parents can now become REAL partners in your home learning policy.
THE PERFECT WORKFLOW LOOP - The app will allow students to upload their completed tasks for the teacher to grade and provide feedback on. Parents needn't wait for half term reports to get a window into their child's progress.
REPORTS - How students perform in home learning tasks can be a very powerful indicator of how they are progressing generally. The tasks become an excellent strategy for Assessment For Learning, and can give teachers incredible insight into whether students are on track, need intervention, or stretching. Degrumbler collates the feedback given in tasks, and provides parents, teachers, students, and SLT with an insightful snapshot of every student's current progress.
